Well, what else could it be? I don't think there is any other OS, with the
credibility for the job, that is as well understood. The hardware, including the
CPU architecture, has not been defined yet, but will be either fully documented
processor boards or our own design, so we need something that has been ported to
any likely architecture, which rules out OpenBSD, even though its code quality
is probably the best. SCOundrelware is out, for obvious reasons. NetBSD would
also have been a candidate, but the software team are not familiar with
it. Although the required product life is only about 15 years, there is strong
disinclination to use anything proprietary which can not be replicated or
replaced if it becomes obsolete, so things like PC motherboards are
non-starters. There is also a SUN running Slowlaris, which we have not been
asked to replace, however that can most likely be replaced by a new Sun should
