You are right. It is the problem, but I can't
wait for someone to solve it, so I try to solve
it for myself. Microsoft did this, because it
never stops trying to destroy GNU/Linux and
the GPL. They get in the way of its monopoly,
and that is just one of many reasons that I
will gladly stand on my head to keep using
Linux.
It's worth it to me.
On old hardware, I have some too, but as distros
develop and progress, eventually you hit a wall
and they don't work well any more on such old
hardware. I have this thing about quiet. And
I can't stand to use a computer with the fan
going all the time or even a lot. That was the
Apple draw, actually, for me, the quiet. And
when I use sub-quality hardware, you get the fan,
and it's not pretty. I do care about that too.
So here I am, trying to cobble together something
that I can enjoy using. But I was also trying
to figure out something for everyone --was this
a simple workaround to the issue Microsoft
created with its secure boot stuff? I think it
is, actually, but until I can get a chromebook
that I can install GNU/Linux on to see how well
it works, I can't say for sure.
And I'm not happy if the only one I can use is
Ubuntu. So I will keep researching and waiting
until 1) I can afford to get another laptop more
suitable for the experiment and 2) the community
makes it possible to install any distro on a
chromebook. I'm sure it will happen. I am not
the only one who sees the possibilities here,
I know.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
