The investment banks did all fail. In the words of 'Fame', 'and this is where we
start paying'.

Profitable investment banks are well aware
of the value of ignorance.
Years
ago there was a study:
several methods of selecting stocks to invest in were
tested.
The second most successful method was to pick stocks at random.
The
best method was to ask a bunch of random people to pick
stocks, and go for the
most popular.
At the time, the preferred technique (which came third) was to
compare current market statistics to a historical record.
When a match was
found, it was assumed that stock values
would roughly repeat what they did last
time. To some extent, it
worked - perhaps because analysts in various
investment banks
saw the same patterns in the same data and
convinced their
bosses to bet on the same stocks.
I do not know vodou stock prediction method is
currently fashionable,
but I am sure the reason it works is because the
majority of investors
are using the same gambling system.

Considering that the Great Depression wasn't the first go
around, either. The first, IIRC, ended in the French
Revolution.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
