Administration, Congress Intensify Opposition To Global Generic Drug Industry
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, June 30 2013 @ 11:05 AM EDT
It's probably the same medication and the journalist was too
lazy, or forgot in the rush to make a deadline, to do a better
job comparing for similar time units. My father was on cancer
medication that cost $7500 for ONE pill, which he had to take
monthly. I suspect that it doesn't cost anywhere near that
much to make a single pill.

How do you get $300?
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, July 02 2013 @ 04:01 PM EDT

    priced at $1 a day
vs
    $10,000 per person per year
1 year is 365* days, 10000/365 = 27.397

Of course, $1 vs $27.40 is still pretty significant!

* 365.25 if you want to factor in the leap year.

There are more details in the article such as:

In India, where annual per capita income is about $1,400, Novartis was charging about $31,000 a year for the medication.
The generic version legalized by the court's decision costs around $2,100.
But I just don't get where you got the $300 value from. Even the highest number - $75,000 per year - is less then 300 when divided by number of days in a year.
