Well, the world has been all backwards for quite
some time, it is just crystal clear now.
BTW, do you have any reason to believe that ES
was ever at the Moscow airport?

perhaps a plauge of
'Showdon is on flight xxxy leading aaa for bbb'
might just convince a few governments of the futility of trying to 'force down'
all aircraft in the hope of finding him onboard. Aside from the various
dimplomatic rows that would sour quite a few pending treaties...

1) A commenter over on the Guardian site suggested that someone in Russia
probed the extent of the NSA spying by talking about Snowden being on the
Bolivian plane in a supposedly private room or over a supposedly secure channel.
This is the only reasonable explanation I've seen for such an extreme and
hostile action (forcing down the Bolivian president's plane). The result is
that not only did the US embarrass itself and waste political/diplomatic capital
on a wild Snowden chase, they also divulged/burned part of their previously
secret spying apparatus.
2)
I guess it was obvious and I'm a tad
late to the party but it seems that these offers of asylum from Latin American
countries are a direct result of the kidnapping of the president of Bolivia. It
makes perfect sense and it must be terribly embarrassing for the US that their
attempt to nab Snowden en route to Bolivia has greatly increased his chances for
gaining asylum.
The US was trying to silence Snowden by whisking him
away in a surprise and risky move. Instead, they garnered Snowden the support
of at least three heads of state right when it was being reported that
his asylum
options were dwindling.
This is exactly what Snowden needs in order to get
to
safety and stay out of the clutches of the US government.

I'm not American and I can say this story is embarassing the
US all over the world.
The USA should admit its faults, get Snowden back and grant
him freedom of charge. Then change the ways it keeps its
citizens safe. Period.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
